While in Bardstown, visit My Old Kentucky Home State Park. October is the perfect time to go for these fun seasonal events.
Shadows of Federal Hill – October 24-25. This popular event leads you on a ghost tour of My Old Kentucky Home. Afterward, enjoy the scare garden, a hayride, and s’mores on the Park grounds.
There’s a more kid-friendly version of the Shadows event to enjoy on Family Night, Oct. 19.
General tours of My Old Kentucky Home are also available. The mansion on the property is one of the most iconic 19th-century homes in America. Commissioned by politician John Rowan, the federal style three-story mansion was completed in 1818 and was originally named Federal Hill. After a rich history in the Rowan family, the home and property were transferred in 1923 to the Commonwealth of Kentucky and named My Old Kentucky Home, honoring frequent visitor Stephen Foster’s ballad and Kentucky’s state song. Over 75% of the mansion’s various contents are original to the property. Daily tours start every hour and offer a live rendition of the state song by a guide in period dress.
Special events such as Culinary Biscuit Tour may be booked for larger groups (10-30 persons). Two weeks advance booking is required. Tours can be booked online or by calling 502-564-1926.
