Sometimes, we purchase a new home that has a few landscape bushes out front, we get used to it and don’t think about it again. Unless there is a problem or bushes die, most of us don’t consider a big change to our exteriors. I want to propose a different approach and explain why you might need a consultation with a professional.
Landscape architects can help you envision a new way of using the outside of your home. When you drive up – what could it be? When you go out your back door, is there a way to create a sanctuary or just a good spot for a restful moment? Even a small bit of land can be enhanced, and utilizing a landscape architect doesn’t have to be a luxurious indulgence.

I sat down and sketched some ideas I have for my own property. Some would require a larger budget than I currently have, but it’s something I can aspire to. Just like clients I help, I have to think about which projects will have the most impact and will help me enjoy my home. I want to have a thrill when I drive into my driveway, and I want to see different textures and light when I look out my windows. I hope you will dream a little with me.
What to expect from a consultation:
- New ideas on how to create “rooms” or views at your property.
- A solid plan that includes specific materials that can make a difference. Perhaps your small patio where you enjoy your morning coffee could be made of some beautiful reclaimed stone. Or a divider of bushes or fence work can restore your view from your back porch.
- An idea on how to execute the plan, which can be managed by your professional or can be done yourself. You can also do phases at different times, spreading out the cost or the projects.
