It is the home of major producers like Orville Redenbacher (who was born in Brazil, Indiana), and Weaver Popcorn, which produces around 30% of the world’s popcorn. More Corydon Fun Facts:
In 1813, Corydon was selected as the second territorial capital of Indiana, and three years later it became the first state capital. The capital was moved to the more central location of Indianapolis in 1825, but the original Corydon capitol building still stands at 211 N Capitol Ave, the cornerstone of the town square. Near the capitol building, the Constitutional Elm is the preserved, massive trunk of a historic tree under which 43 delegates drafted Indiana’s first state constitution in 1816. Located on West High Street, it served as a cool, shaded workspace during an intense summer heatwave when working in the designated log cabin became unbearable. Nine historic buildings from the 1816-1825 time period still stand. Other notable historical destinations include the Battle of Corydon site, the only Civil War battle fought on Indiana soil. More recently, Corydon was home to Indiana’s 47th governor, Frank O’Bannon.
