Get your green on this month, blow the grandkids’ minds with nostalgia and monster trucks, and check out some thought-provoking art and history. Louisville is offering a little bit of everything in March.
St. Patrick’s Day events
Take a trip to the Highlands (the Louisville ones) on Saturday, March 14 for the classic St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Get a good spot because floats, bands, and plenty of Erin go Bragh (“Ireland forever!”) will be on display.
On selected dates in March, you can also visit Oldham Gardens for their free St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Enjoy the festive lineup of music, drink specials, food, and fun in the gardens. And don’t forget all the Irish pubs in town hosting their own events like the Irish Rover on Frankfort Avenue, which is holding its annual tent party (scroll down to see the details for March 17) from 11am-9pm. Tables are available on a first-come, first-serve basis with a $10 cover charge. There’ll be music and dancing for this classic Irish party.
Family fun

If you have a car-loving grandkid, pack your headphones and head to Monster Jam at Freedom Hall on March 7-8. (Got a girly granddaughter? There’s a pink Sparkle Smash truck, too.) Buy a Pit Party Pass to see the 12,000-pound monster trucks up close, and bring your autograph book to get your favorite drivers’ signatures, take photos, and enjoy a fun-filled day Lightning McQueen would envy.
Remember when collecting quarters for arcade games felt like a part-time job? Well, step back in time at the Louisville Arcade Expo without weighing your pockets with heavy change. With many pinball and video games on free play mode, you’ll be able to share this experience with the younger generation March 26-27.

If you and your family need more chill vibes, then visit the Louisville Zoo for some early Easter fun at the Bunny Hop on March 28-29. You’ll take a “Safari EGGventure” to find giant hidden eggs and participate in other kid-friendly activities. This event is free with your membership.
Engage your mindThe vibrant Latinx art exhibition Aflora has been on display at the Frazier History Museum for a few months, and as it ends you can catch a special tour and meet the artists whose work reflects the times and circumstances in which we are living. This event is free with your membership.
Engage your mind
The vibrant Latinx art exhibition Aflora has been on display at the Frazier History Museum for a few months, and as it ends you can catch a special tour and meet the artists whose work reflects the times and circumstances in which we are living. This Aflora: The Artist Talk event is free with museum admission and is happening March 1 from 2-4pm. (Did you know that the beloved Rachel Platt is spearheading these events at the Frazier? See what she’s up to now.)
Locust Grove Historic Site is celebrating historic hometown legend, composer Mildred J. Hill. Mildred is responsible for composing the most-sung melody in the world: Happy Birthday, penned right here in Louisville in 1893. Enjoy this afternoon lecture on March 4 from 1-3pm, $8 for members and $10 for non-members.
Happy memory-making this March!
