Cooler days, colorful nights, and plenty of fun to be had — October has arrived. Here are the Louisville events on our calendar.

Dear Louisvillians,

I’m writing to inform you that it’s time. The art show we’ve been dreaming about all year is upon us: The St. James Court Art Show. Can you believe it’s the 70th anniversary of this famous juried art show in historic Old Louisville? Artists and creatives will be showing their skills under the trees on October 2-4. Admission is free — I’ll meet you at the fountain.

After you’ve spent some time admiring your new artwork, don’t stop indulging your senses. On October 30, the Louisville Orchestra performs a Halloween-themed John Williams program. Enjoy a night at the symphony hearing Williams’ famous orchestration from beloved films like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Superman, and Jaws.

Halloween Celebrations

Boo at the Zoo is underway at the Louisville Zoo on select nights from October 1–30. Kids age 11 and younger can trick-or-treat and try out their Halloween costumes before the official big day! There are also family-friendly attractions with live character interactions and many photo ops.

If you haven’t heard the news, after 13 years, the OG Jack O’Lantern Spectacular has moved to Kentucky Kingdom. This will run Wednesdays through Sundays from October 1 through November. Tickets are available for purchase online, and those with season passes get in free.

But don’t be scared, because the Parks Alliance of Louisville has organized a new jack-o-lantern event to keep the glow alive in Iroquois Park October 1 through November 1. You can expect to see thousands of carved pumpkins with donations going to Louisville’s free and lovely public park system.

Those who love the season’s spooky vibes won’t want to miss the 18th Annual Victorian Ghost walk on the weekend of October 16-18. (See our fall issue to meet the writer of the tour and the bewitching bard of Old Louisville himself, David Dominé!) The event starts at the Conrad-Caldwell House and runs every 15 minutes between 6-10pm. Tickets are available online.
