Spend A Saturday Exploring Frankfort, Ky.

December 2, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Lunch Plus One is a simple outing to enjoy with a friend or visiting relatives or guests. Perhaps now is the time to take a quick road trip and get acquainted with a few places in Kentucky’s capital city.

Serafini restaurant in Frankfort, Kentucky, provides a filling Italian lunch during a visit to the state capital.

The Lunch

The fried green tomato BLT at Serafini in Frankfurt Kentucky is a great option for lunch.
A southern treat is this Fried Green Tomato BLT. Serafini serves a mix of Italian and Southern food.

Serafini

243 W. Broadway St.
Frankfort, KY 40601
Brunch hours: Weekends 11am-3pm

Located across from the Old State Capitol, Serafini serves up a tasty weekend brunch to fortify you for an afternoon of shopping or investigating the commonwealth’s history. Your pick.

Serafini in Frankfurt has plenty of options for a light lunch

This cute corner bistro serves a fine mix of Italian and Southern fare. I tried the Fried Green Tomato BLT and was not disappointed. Of course, any meal that includes bacon is a treat. It also offers other tasty sandwiches, salads, and starters. If heartiness is your aim, the country ham carbonara or classic lasagna is sure to satisfy.

Plus One: Shopping

Poor Richards Books in Frankfurt has an incredible selection of good reads

If you want to take in a little shopping, there are a variety of places to duck into in the same block as Serafini’s. Poor Richard’s Books offers new and used books in addition to gifts and a fine selection of letterpress books from Kentucky’s own Larkspur Press. Connected to the bookshop is the Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe where you can grab a latte or espresso if your energy starts to wane. Also to visit are Completely Kentucky featuring items by Kentucky artisans, an antiques store, and a ceramics studio and gallery.

History

Kentucky Historical Society

100 W. Broadway St.
Tuesday-Saturday
10am-5pm
Adults $8 Veterans $6

The Kentucky Historical Society is located less than a half mile from Serafini’s. Take a stroll through the portraits on display in the Hall of Governors, marvel at the tiny stitches of the handmade quilts, study the handcrafted furniture by Kentucky citizens, and take a look at Abraham Lincoln’s pocket watch. (Interesting fact: The watch features in the 2012 film Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis. In one scene you will hear the ticking of Lincoln’s watch. That is the actual recorded sound of the watch on display here at the museum.)

On your way back to Louisville, drive up and check the time on the famous floral clock behind the current Capitol building and then your day is done.

P.S. Eat some fish tacos and take a leisurely stroll through this quaint town.
