We’ve got our ear to the ground to bring you the word on the street. Here’s what’s going on around Louisville in the world of intentional later living.

A monumental birthday party

Big congrats are in order for Edith Matthews at Belmont Village Senior Living! She just celebrated her 100th birthday with a truly special event that honored her lifelong service as an Air Force nurse and healthcare pro. The celebration was moving, featuring an all-female color guard, a vintage military jeep display, and a tribute honoring women in military service. Community leaders and veterans joined in, and Edith even received an official proclamation from the Mayor of St. Matthews. It was an afternoon filled with pride, joy, and delicious finger foods, celebrating a centenarian who is a real inspiration.

A gathering on aging well

The UofL Trager Institute’s 2026 Optimal Aging Conference was a huge success, wrapping up two days packed with insights from leaders in aging care. Day One saw over 200 attendees diving into lifestyle medicine, innovative aging research, and practical tools for improving quality of life. Then, Day Two kept the energy high, covering critical topics like how geriatricians can better support older adults dealing with substance use disorders, and wrapping up with an inspiring panel of adults 80 and over sharing their wisdom and humor.

A gift your family may not know they need

Let’s talk about something that can be tough but is ultimately a gift: pre-planning your funeral or cremation arrangements with Dignity Memorial. When families face a loss, decisions about what their loved one would have wanted, costs, or if they’re doing the “right thing” can be overwhelming, especially when compounded by grief, financial stress, and time pressure. Pre-planning is a strategic and compassionate solution that lets you document every detail in advance, from service preferences to final disposition. You can also pre-fund the plans to lock in today’s prices. Learn more here.
