With celebrations galore to choose from this month, pack up some snacks and enjoy any of these classic parties or family-friendly events. Happy summer!

Independence Day Celebrations
Waterfront Park doesn’t disappoint when it comes to celebrating our nation’s birthday, and with this one being the USA’s big Semiquincentennial, this year’s celebration is sure to be a blast. Check out the free music, food, and tons of family-friendly activities starting at 5pm, then watch fireworks sparkle over the Ohio River starting at 10pm.
If you’re looking for a quiet and scenic way to spend your day, Historic Locust Grove is offering a community breakfast with multicultural music and interfaith programming. Silent reflection around the fire starts at 5am, giving you the opportunity to ground yourself in nature, history, and community. The cultural program will follow after sunrise, and then breakfast starts at 8:30.
And of course, the beloved Crescent Hill 4th of July Festival is happening at the Peterson Dumesnil House. More than just fireworks, this celebration offers music, arts and crafts, food and beer trucks, a cake contest and cake wheel, a magic show, and plenty of games and inflatables for the grandkids. Fireworks start at 10pm.

More fun for all ages
Relax on the Oasis lawn at the Louisville Zoo while enjoying one of the city’s favorite summer traditions: ROARchestra combines live music from the Louisville Orchestra, the beauty of a summer night at the Zoo, and the smooth sounds of Yacht Rock classics for a one-of-a-kind outdoor concert experience on July 11. Feel free to walk around and say hi to your favorite animal friends until 8pm, and pack your lawn chairs and blankets.
Don’t forget about watching movies under the stars! Head to the Downtown Drive-In at Waterfront Park to see The Princess Bride on July 17 and School of Rock on July 31, starting between 8-9pm. And the Sauerbeck Drive-In in La Grange is showing a variety of different flicks this summer, from Toy Story 5 to The Mandalorian and Grogu.
So grab your lawn chair, gather family and friends, and fill your calendar with the sights, sounds, and simple pleasures that make summer in Louisville so special.
