One of the best parts about living near Louisville is having so many interesting places just a short drive away. This fall, gather a friend or two and enjoy everything from historic walking tours to world-class art, engaging storytelling, and exceptional bourbon.
Tell a story
Once you’ve got some age and experience under your belt, you’ve got tales to tell. Consider participating in, or at least attending, a Grown-Up Storytime 502 event at West Sixth in Nulu. Each month, the organizers post a theme, and anyone can send in their tale. Don’t worry if you’re not into public speaking — you can submit a story without actually performing for the crowd. Find out more about this free storytelling event on Facebook at Grown-Up Storytime502.
An architectural walking tour

Madison, Indiana, has a lovely historic district, and on select Saturdays from May through October at 10am, a free guided tour of the area allows visitors to get to know the styles of homes and the history of Madison. These tours are organized by Historic Madison Inc.
See some pumpkins

In 2024, art lovers were delighted when the Speed Art Museum exhibited Yayoi Kusama’s infinity mirror room installation. If you’re a Kusama enthusiast, head to the Cincinnati Art Museum before October 18, 2026 to see Yayoi Kusama: All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins. Grab your pumpkin spice latte and drive on up!
A bourbon bonanza
You can enjoy live music and a beautiful space at The Last Refuge on Market Street where an entire wall of bourbon awaits you. The restaurant/bar is in a church built in 1880. It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends for drinks and catching up, as well as sampling Bob Dylan’s craft bourbon, Heaven’s Door.
